Cambie and Riley Park

A dynamic mix of housing and people, these areas offer something for everyone. The jewel of the neighbourhoods is Queen Elizabeth Park, a 52-hectare park that sits atop the highest point in Vancouver, offering stunning panoramic views of the city, ocean, and mountains. If that wasn’t enough, the neighbourhoods also offer two more notable parks, Douglas Park and Riley Park. Both of these parks offer beautiful green spaces that are nestled directly within the borders of these twow neighbourhoods, making them literally right in your backyard.

Home to two major shopping districts, South Cambie and Main Street, these streets are only 6 blocks apart, although they may feel like worlds apart. Main Street, once considered to be “the wrong side of the tracks,” has transformed completely and now offers a stunning variety of restaurants, food stalls, and independent stores offering all manner of goods. Trendy, hip, up and coming are all words to describe Main Street. South Cambie has a quiet, village-y feel, with family-friendly amenities such as parks and schools. Located on one of Vancouver’s primary heritage boulevards, Cambie Village extends from West 6th Avenue to King Edward Avenue. The area is well connected to main transit lines, including the 99 B-Line and the Canada Line SkyTrain. South Cambie is packed full of shops, restaurants, and various retail and service outlets, making Cambie another one of Vancouver’s neighbourhood gems.

Cambie and Riley Park's Appeal

Complete with parks, shopping, restaurants, and community centers, these neighbourhoods offer more than many other towns. People of all walks of life are attracted here as the areas are much more diversified. Riley Park is a true melting pot where you can find everything from fine dining restaurants, to food carts and to-go sushi. Many schools in the area make this a dynamic place to live for people with children. Transportation wise you have many options, including the Canada Line, which runs north to south down Cambie Street, taking you all the way to Richmond, YVR, or Downtown Vancouver, where you can either get off, transfer to the SeaBus to head to the North Shore, or transfer to another line and go as far as Coquitlam or Surrey.

Restaurants and bars can be found throughout both Cambie and Riley Park, but a notable concentration can be found along Main Street. With 6 elementary schools, 2 french schools and 3 secondary schools, and several private schools within a 10-minute drive, these neighbourhoods offer a diverse range of educational opportunities, ensuring there is something for everyone.

Shopping

Much like the restaurants, the shopping in these neighbourhoods is as diverse as the people. Everything can be found here such as the boutique stores like Walrus and Welk’s General Store. You will be hard-pressed not to be able to find what you are looking for.

Parks

The three notable parks Queen Elizabeth, Douglas Park, and Riley Park, offer a combined area of 60 hectares (150 acres), an amazing amount of green space for a neighbourhood. Douglas Park offers ample open fields, a community center, and a playground area. The main tree-lined promenade in Douglas Park is a pleasant place to sit and take in views.

While Riley Park is welcoming to people wanting to picnic, play sports, or walk along the curving paths throughout the park. The park and community center offer the city’s first universally accessible playground; sheltered by some lovely trees is another unique feature; a climbing boulder.

Transportation

Cambie and Riley Park are some of the most easily accessible areas in Vancouver. With the Canada Line running north to south from downtown Vancouver to Richmond and Vancouver International Airport. Buses here are frequent and plentiful. There is also a network of bike paths and walking paths ensuring that if you decide not to use public transportation, there is a safe and accessible means of getting around.

Nat Bailey Stadium

Rising from its spot nestled between Queen Elizabeth, Hillcrest, and Riley Park, historic Nat Bailey Stadium is home to the Vancouver Canadians baseball team. Several grassed areas surrounding the stadium are also pleasant for strolling or enjoying the sunshine. Built-in 1951, Capilano Stadium was renamed in 1978 after Nat Bailey, founder of the first drive-in restaurant in Canada, tireless supporter of many community groups, and part-owner of the Vancouver Mounties baseball team.

This hyper-local market has a wide swath of suitable accommodations to choose from, and the streets vary considerably. Depending on your criteria, you will need to be careful about where you move. Closer to Main Street, the properties are more situated towards the “action,” however, this comes with an increase in noise and traffic.
