Fairview

One of the most vibrant areas in Vancouver, and with proximity to both waterfront and the downtown core.

Located within Fairview is the South Granville shopping district, which is home to some of Vancouver’s finest retail destinations. As well as shopping districts, Fairview is home to the Vancouver General Hospital, one of the province’s major hospitals. Fairview is also home to one of Vancouver’s newest, up and coming neighbourhoods, Olympic Village, which was originally built to house the 2010 Olympic Games athletes. Olympic Village is situated on the south end of False Creek and has all the modern amenities one would expect to find in a community such as this.

Located within the False Creek area of Fairview is the beautiful Granville Island, and although technically not an island, this area has become one of the premier destinations for Vancouver tourists and locals alike.

Fairview's Appeal

The beautiful waterfront and seawall in False Creek, combined with shopping on South Granville, and the proximity to VGH, there is not a lot that Fairview doesn’t offer. You will find many restaurants, stores, grocery markets, and the famous Granville Island Market within Fairview. With the neighbourhood’s proximity to the downtown core and Kitsilano, anything you cannot find in Fairview is no more than a short drive, bus, walk, bike,water taxi or jog away.

Seawall

Going west along the beautiful seawall that runs through False Creek provides a continuous path to Spanish Banks, while going east takes you all the way to Stanley Park and Coal Harbour. The seawall can be walked, biked, or jogged and the dramatic landscape provides an ever-changing view.

Situated on the South Side of False Creek, Granville Island provides fantastic shopping, dining, superb bars, and theatre. A notable purveyor worth checking out is the Lobster Man, which provides some of the city’s freshest shellfish. Also noteworthy are the countless independent stores, art galleries, comedy houses, and of course, the Granville Island Market.

Nestled in Fairview, you will find the shopping district of South Granville; one could quickly lose track of time wandering in and out of the countless stores which line the streets.

Schools are plentiful in Fairview. The acclaimed L’Ecole Bilingue Elementary School is situated in the center of Fairview with Tennyson Elementary just on its western edge and False Creek Elementary to the north. Prince of Wales Secondary School and Kitsilano Secondary School are within a short driving/walking distance from Fairview.

Olympic Village

Situated on the east end of Fairview is the bustling Olympic Village. Here, you will find restaurants galore, and the 500 seat Craft Beer Market, where they serve 100 beers on tap. Olympic Village also has its own subway stop, adding to the accessibility this area provides to the rest of Vancouver.

Vancouver General Hospital

With one of the top Hospitals in the province located here, Fairview provides excellent access to anyone who needs to reside in close proximity to medical facilities. Along with the hospital, you will find many private practices, where specialists of all types have offices in this area.

The Fairview Housing Market

An influx in people wanting to move to this area has led to a reduction of single-family homes and significantly increased the number of multi-family dwellings, which is most evident in the area of Olympic Village.

Demand for this desirable location has increased tremendously. With the addition of upscale retail, coffee bars, popular restaurants, art galleries, and high-end antique shops contributing to the density, it makes housing in this area primarily multi-family. Although there are still some detached family homes, they are becoming fewer.

Go for a light stroll along the seawall, where you unwind with the calming lull of the waves from the Salish Sea, or enjoy one of Vancouver’s beautiful sunsets with the picturesque north shore mountains silhouetted in the background.

Your Life On Weekends

In the morning, you get up early and head to Caffe Cittadella with you grab a coffee. Afterwards you proceed to Olympic Village, where you get a bite at one of the many food trucks, then head to the patio at Mahony and Sons, where you soak up the sun while watching the boats come and go from the harbour. Later on, that evening, you and your friends go to Granville Island for a night filled with laughs at the all too funny Vancouver Theatresports League.

Water Taxis, Subway, and Busses

Due to Fairview’s proximity to downtown Vancouver and the multitude of ways of getting around, transportation is never an issue living here, and you’ll have your choice of water taxis, busses, rideshare, subway, taxis, and of course your bike to choose from.

What You'll Love

Fairview has so much to offer that it is hard to know where to begin. The redeveloped waterfront along False Creek has helped to beautify the area. While in contrast, the expansive seawall, the endless dining, and multitude of retail options have made Fairview a highly desirable community to live. You will love inviting friends over and watching as they all wished they could live here as well.

What You May Not Like

With most housing here being multi-family, larger families, unless they are accustomed to condo or townhouse living, may find the housing here small for their needs. The sacrifice to live in such a desirable location is the lack of single-family homes and less space. This means no back yards for the kids.
