Uniquely positioned in Vancouver, Shaughnessy provides serenity to its residents, keeping them removed from the city’s obstreperous noise. With convenient access to downtown Vancouver and immediately beside the South Cambie neighbourhood residents of Shaugnessy have convenient access to all manner of amenities.

With 23 percent of the homes built before 1960 and a further 25 percent of households constructed between 1960 and 1980, Shaughnessy represents the height of prestige in the city’s heart. Inspired by classic British and early American architecture and the city working to preserve pre-1940’s homes while ensuring new home development conforms with the neighbourhood, one needs not to worry about the charm of this heritage community being lost any time soon.

Traffic-calmed roads, tall hedges, and private gates all contribute to the privacy that Shaughnessy provides to its residents. When walking down the streets, it would not be hard to imagine you strolling through a park rather than a central neighbourhood in the province’s densest city.

A central location means residents are offered a multitude of options of education. For elementary-aged children, Shaughnessy Elementary is a convenient choice; located in the heart of the community, it provides a safe and easy commute. Just outside of Shaughnessy, you will find both Carr and Quilchena Elementary Schools. Prince of Whales, Eric Hamber, and Point Grey Secondary are all excellent choices for Secondary schools. If private schools are what you are looking for, Vancouver College, Little Flower Academy, York House School, Vancouver Talmud Torah, Crofton House, and St. George are excellent choices for your consideration.

If being close to hospitals and medical services are a consideration, both BC Women’s Hospital and BC Children’s hospital are located within the boundaries of Shaughnessy, while VGH is located just out of the neighbourhood limits on West 12.

Being in the midst of the city means all the conveniences of Vancouver are at your fingertips. Easy access to downtown Vancouver, Kitsilano, South Cambie, South Granville, False Creek, and Granville Island are all quickly and easily accessible.

Bordered by South Cambie and with Granville Street running through the heart of Shaughnessy, shopping opportunities are countless. Essentials and specialty goods stores are conveniently located. Not far beyond Shaughnessy, just down Granville Street, is access to major grocery stores, including Whole Foods and Save On Foods.

VanDusen Botanical Gardens

Created in 1966 by a group of gardening enthusiasts keen to see a public garden built on the former Shaughnessy Golf Course site, these beautiful gardens provide a wonderful mixture of Elizabethan Mazes, Stone Gardens, Scottish Shelter, countless plant collections, and extraordinary art.

Your Life After Work

Traffic reduced streets provide the perfect opportunity to walk off the stress of the day. In the fall, the leaves of the ornamental trees begin to change, giving you a dazzling display of colour right above your head. Go to VanDusen Botanical Gardens and explore their ever-changing exhibits, whether it is the Festival of Lights at Christmas or the waterlilies and rose bloom in July.

Your Life On Weekends

The spacious single-family homes on sizable lots provide the ideal setting for dinner with friends or hosting garden parties. If you need to leave Shaughnessy’s enclave, then all that the city has to offer is right at your doorstep, owing to the neighbourhood’s central location.

Dining & Entertainment

Although there are limited dining options within the borders or Shaughnessy itself, the neighborhood’s centrality lends itself to being limitless in possibilities. With a reservation downtown at L’Abattoir or a night out in Kitsilano, it makes no difference; you are only a short drive away, so even if you leave late, you can still make it on time.

Jogging, Strolling, and Biking

The neighbourhood lends itself splendidly to jogging, strolling, and biking. There are many heritage homes encompassed within the community that can be marveled at, all within Shaughnessy’s peaceful setting.

What You’ll Love

You will love the small community feel, the closeness to nature, and the tranquility of suburbia, all the while being only minutes from the city’s action. You will truly get a sense of having the best of both worlds living here.

What You May Not Like

The large single-family homes provide an idyllic country setting away from the noise. If you are looking to be in the “thick of it,” these communities will not be for you. Dunbar and Arbutus are removed from the city center, meaning no night clubs, and the bars here are generally quieter gastropubs. There are many restaurants, but generally, to find the best in the city, one needs to venture beyond these two communities’ borders.
