UBC is a student’s dream, and with the completion of the new developments, the lands here offer more than ever to the full-time student or resident alike. Most of the houses on UBC are located in the University Hill community. This quiet residence of approximately 3000 people provides a calm suburban-like atmosphere while being surrounded by forest and breathtaking views. There are many condos closer to campus for students, which offer many amenities such as pubs, restaurants, and green spaces to unwind.

Wreck Beach

UBC is home to Wrecked Beach, which requires you to descend approximately 500 wooden steps to reveal a clothing-optional beach that stretches along the base of the cliff that houses UBC.

Schools

Much like the neighbouring community of Point Grey, you will find some of the best public schools in the province here. Children will have many options on where to be educated. University Hill, Southlands, Queen Elizabeth, Jules Quesnel, and Queen Mary are all elementary schools that land in the catchment zones. While University Hill Secondary and Lord Byng Secondary are the local high schools.

The presence of the renowned University of British Columbia that centers this whole district offers unsurpassed educational opportunities for all.

Transportation

With the planned expansion of the Broadway Subway line from Commercial to UBC, transportation to and from this neighbourhood is about to get a whole lot better. With a sizable portion of the residents living within this area being students, this community is well served by buses, and there are numerous bike paths that conveniently lead in and out of the endowment lands.

Dining

The UBC campus has seen a lot of recent development here, and with that development, there has come an increase in dining options from gastropubs like
BierCraft
to vegan pizza at Virtuous Pie, and the student favourite The Pitt Pub . Just beyond the borders of UBC is the rest of the city, where an expansive dining scene awaits you if you so desire.

Privacy

With much of the housing on the endowment lands you will find a quiet, suburban-like atmosphere set between acres of forest and the breathtaking University of British Columbia campus.

Parks and Nature

The University community provides you the opportunity to feel a part of Vancouver’s vibrant city life. At the same time, you situate yourself a comfortable distance from the city bustle. From any point in the neighbourhood, you’re just a short walk away from a forest, beaches, or stunning views of the ocean and mountains.

Housing at UBC is diverse, from student accommodations to strata units in the mid to high range to single-family detached homes with some of the most expensive price tags in the province. Depending on your budget and with some patience, you will be able to find a home if you desire to live at UBC.

Your Life After Work / School

After being in class all day, you unwind on the patio of BierCraft with your friends, where you enjoy some of Belgium’s finest brews. After a day at the office you can get out your bike, or put on your hiking or running shoes and explore the vast trail network that surrounds you in Pacific Spirit Park.

Your Life On Weekends

UBC is full of wonderful opportunities and things to explore on the weekends. You can catch a show at Thunderbird Stadium, get a cultural fix at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts, or learn something new at the Beaty Beaty Biodiversity Museum.

Entertainment

The UBC Museumof Anthropology , UBC Botanical Gardens, and the Jericho Arts Center are just a few of the things that you can do in this area.

Trails

Located on the west side of the city of Vancouver, the Pacific Spirit Regional Park offers a network of trails contained in more than 750 hectares of forest. The trails in the park are popular with local residents and accessible year-round.

What You’ll Love

You will appreciate the quiet neighbourhoods, surrounded by nature, and peacefulness of the setting you are in. Students can take full advantage Social, educational and recreational opportunities that are available to them. While other residents who live in areas such as University can enjoy the benefits of privacy and a tight knit community, all being only minutes away from everything Vancouver.

What You May Not Like

Much like the neighbouring community of Point Grey, if you are looking to be in the “thick of it,” this will not be the community for you. UBC is removed from the city center, meaning no night clubs, street festivals, and other lively activities that are associated with other parts of the City. There are several restaurants here, but generally, to find the best in the city, one needs to venture beyond the borders of this community.
